USA Today and International bestselling author J.C. Valentine is back with the latest in her captivating, enigmatic, and rousing world of the Spartan Riders MC...
She has a secret she’s desperate to keep...
With danger looming on the horizon, former FBI agent turned bunny, Bambi Lane, isn’t taking any chances. Taking refuge in a nearby town, she builds a new and comfortable life under the radar, but when trouble comes knocking on her door, she finds that the one thing she’s worked so hard to protect is about to be exposed.
He has a desire that won’t be denied.
Curtis “Taco” Nash, the Spartan’s road captain, has always marched to the beat of his own drum, his only loyalty to that of his brothers and the club.
Only one person has ever successfully clawed their way under Curtis Nash’s skin, and when she disappeared from his life without so much as a goodbye, he wrote her off—at least, he tried to. One mention of the one who got away, and he’s consumed with desire—and anger.
He wants answers. He wants her. He’s about to get a lot more than he bargained for.
As the war between the cartel and the Spartans heats up, Taco has to decide if he’s going to protect his brothers or the new life that’s waiting for him. When everything hangs in the balance, one thing is clear: No one is safe. Will Bambi and Taco be able to come together and find the strength to take a leap of faith before time runs out?

EXCERPT:

He wanted his answers—now. Grabbing the handle, he twisted the knob and went inside.
Bambi was laying the baby down in a white, lacy bassinette beside the bed. When she looked over her shoulder at him, it was with pure malice. “I just got him to sleep. Don’t make a sound. Don’t even breathe,” she whispered.
Taco wasn’t sure what to do. He suddenly found himself out of his element. He’d been around kids before, of course. They were crawling around the compound like cockroaches every weekend, especially during the daylight hours. He always tried to steer clear of that chaos. He didn’t dislike kids, not at all. But he didn’t have an affinity for them either.
Bambi backed away slowly, as if she were trying not to detonate a grenade. She moved so slowly and carefully, Taco rolled his eyes in exasperation.
“We need to talk,” he told her.
The instant his voice hit the room, the kid started shifting around, and Bambi froze in place. Taco didn’t see what the big deal was. He stepped farther inside and took a closer look at the wiggling person.
Bambi’s arm shot out. “I told you not to make a sound.”
“What’s the big deal?”
Then the kid started squirming in earnest, little mewling sounds squeaking out here and there, gaining in frequency and momentum until it was outright fussing, verging on a full-on tantrum.
“He’s a light sleeper,” Bambi said, her voice thick with irritation as she went back to the bassinette and tried to soothe the baby with a gentle hand on his belly. It wasn’t working. The more she tried to soothe, the more it squirmed.
“I don’t think it’s working,” Taco told her helpfully. Except the look she shot him told him his input wasn’t appreciated.
That’s when the baby started crying in earnest. “Thanks a lot,” she snapped at Taco as she scooped the baby up into her arms. “Do you have any idea how long it takes me to get him down for his nap?”
“Should I?”
Her mouth opened, but whatever she was going to say, she didn’t. Instead, she stormed up to him and thrust the red-faced human at him. “Here, I need to go to the bathroom.”
Taco’s reaction was to step back several paces. “What the hell am I supposed to do with it?”
She came at him again, matching each of his steps until they were back in the living room. “You hold him. That’s what you do.” She shoved the kid at him again, forcing it against his chest, and the look in her eyes said she wasn’t going to relent until he did.
Hesitantly, Taco’s hands slowly rose and latched onto the baby’s waist. It was solid and squishy, squirmy like an earthworm, and it was very, very unhappy. “Is it supposed to look like that?”
It is a boy, and he’s just upset. He’ll calm down in a minute. He just needs to be held.”
“I’m not sure about this. Can’t you just…take him with you?” The kid was looking at him, eyes all red and watery, lips pouty as he tried get a hold of himself.
“Well get sure. I’ll only be a minute.” Bambi stalked off, and for some reason Taco was pretty sure that she was going to take her sweet time.
When she was out of sight, he looked at the kid again. Held at arm’s length, they stared at each other, one stoic while the other did that sniffle-hiccup thing. “Yeah, I feel ya, buddy. I kind of feel like crying right now too. But ya know what? It looks like we’re stuck with each other for a few, so you gotta man up. This world isn’t made for criers.”
The baby just stared at him, but he was pulling it together, his face returning to its normal peachy color, eyes the same shade of blue as his own clearing.
“Glad to see we understand each other.”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers will once again find themselves quickly consumed by the continuing battle between the Spartan Riders and a drug cartel that’s invaded their town and spilled their blood on more than one occasion.  Throughout the series it’s a battle that’s kept me on the edge of my seat as the Spartan’s have been betrayed by those outside the Club as well as within.  This time around that battle is balanced with glimpses into the love lives of the previous couples along with a new couple whose unexpected reunion brings new problems.

Curtis “Taco” Nash has always been the love ‘em and leave ‘em type until he met Bambi, the troublesome FBI agent.  Theirs was a clandestine relationship that caught him completely by surprise, especially when she left without a word. Her leaving hurt his ego but also his heart which is why he’s compelled to track her down.  He’s further compelled by the news that she has a baby...a baby he soon finds out is his.  He knows nothing about being a dad but he likes being part of a family that’s all his and it’s a role he embraces wholeheartedly.  With danger knocking on their door though will their HEA be over before it’s barely begun?  Taco’s immensely likable.  He’s a bit domineering, but everything he does is for those he cares about.  He’s a bit rough around the edges too but his sweet interactions with baby Beau were endearing and showed him to have a kind heart.  From start to finish Taco’s a delicious hero and his journey from playboy to father was a heartwarming one.

Bambi Lane always knew right from wrong until she found herself attracted to Taco.  It cost her her job and led to her becoming pregnant.  She never saw herself as a mom, but it’s clear she’s devoted to her baby.  Though she sometimes feels guilty for keeping Beau a secret, she just wants to keep him safe from the dangerous war the Spartans are caught up in.  The moment Taco shows up at her door she knows she can’t keep hiding which brings heartfelt truths to the surface as well as danger to her heart and her life.  Bambi’s a strong-willed heroine who’s fierce when it comes to her son’s safety.  She didn’t just accept Taco at his word, he had to prove his devotion to his new-found family.  Though I was a bit frustrated by a decision she made late in the story, it certainly rang true to the protective person her son has led her to becoming.

Overall this was a scorching and exhilarating thrillride that kept me reading at a furious pace.  Taco and Bambi were a cute couple with a bit of dirtiness to their couplings that were nicely balanced with their picture-perfect family image. Readers also got reacquainted with past couples who, for the most part, are happy.  I enjoyed these scenes as they were an intriguing dichotomy to the ongoing bloody war.  As a gritty battle closed out this book all isn’t rosey for the future.  One Spartan’s HEA has become tarnished as the woman he loves is tired of war and has left him reeling.  There’s also lots of internal strife when it comes to the drug cartel which will have big repercussions in the future.  All in all, I enjoyed this ride and look forward to the next installment as hearts and lives continue to be on the line.

My rating for this is an A-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From its message of starting over to its beach setting, Inked Hearts is the epitome of a summer read.  It’s a carefree read with a sweet romance and a journey of empowerment for a woman caught off guard by the end of her marriage.  With its colorful characters and engaging storyline it’s a romance that kept me on the edge of my seat in frustration waiting for the heroine to decide where her happiness lay.

Avery Johannas thought she had the perfect life with a career she’d worked hard for and a man who seemed picture perfect until the day she found out her husband found their life lacking.  Leaving it all behind she decides to make a fresh start on the beach and live a life completely unplanned and not contingent on any man.  From meeting her loud and brash roommate to finding a job at an eclectic restaurant, her life is definitely changing.  Meeting the sweet and sexy Jesse catches her off-guard though and brings all her fears to the surface. Fears of not being good enough and of being left alone all over again has their friends-to-something-more relationship moving at a snail’s pace.  Jesse pushes her to try new things and to embrace her artistic side, supports her in a way that neither her ex nor her parents have done.  His sweet side, and all the little things he does to show he cares, soon has her heart becoming invested.  When her parents make a surprise visit, and make a surprise offer, she’s left conflicted and in doubt once again.  Avery’s a likable young woman whose reaction to discovering a cheating husband is very realistic.  She needed a fresh start where there were no expectations from others.  It’s a much simpler life she finds, a life not near as glamorous or wealthy as that she left behind, but it’s much more satisfying.  She makes new friends who quickly become family and who don’t judge her for the choices she makes.  Readers learn a lot about Avery through internal commentary that’s full of heartfelt emotions and subtle humor.  Readers will be a bit frustrated though by her wishy-washy nature when confronted by her father’s offer.  Her decision was clear from the start and her doubts made for unnecessary drama.  Despite that I still rooted for Avery to embrace her HEA as her journey to finding empowerment was an immensely satisfying one.

Jesse Pearce came to the shore to fulfill a dream.  It wasn’t entirely his dream at first but it’s one that he now finds satisfying.  Coming from a childhood of heartache due to his mother’s abandonment, and his father’s early death, has left him a bit cautious.  After an ex’s betrayal he’s become even more cautious which makes for a very slow-moving relationship with Avery.  Despite fears for his heart he becomes a big supporter of Avery and pushes her outside her comfort zone.  He helps her embrace her artistic side as he’s been given the chance to embrace his.  He lets her set the pace in their friends-to-lovers relationship while being sweet and sexy every step of the way.  He’s the quintessential book boyfriend, almost too perfect at times, and with all his tats I wish there’d been a bit of roughness to him.  He’s a nice guy who’s willing to sacrifice for Avery’s happiness and through all his words and deeds he endeared himself to me.

This was a sweet romance full of heart and a message of empowerment. Avery’s a likable heroine who left her picture perfect life behind after seeing how tarnished it really was.  Her new life though is carefree and full of supportive people who care for her unconditionally.  Sexy tattoo artist Jesse is part of that supportive group and a drool-worthy hero who did and said so many dreamy things that made him perfect.  Together they were a sweet couple who took their time getting to know each other.  Their romance was cute with heartwarming encounters that ended with a closed bedroom door.  Surrounding this cute couple were an eclectic group of secondary characters who immediately embraced Avery.  They were an outspoken lot and pushed her towards her HEA without remorse.  Among the most outspoken was her roommate Jodie who had her own heartbreaks, but never let it get her down for long.  She was larger than life but with a heart of gold who embraced Avery from the very start as her sister and always gave her words of wisdom.  She’s an immensely likable and memorable character who deserves her own HEA and I hope the author feels the same.  This is a satisfying read overall, a bit slow throughout the middle section, with a romance that was a very slow burn.  The characters were worth rooting for though in a story that left me cheering by the turn of the final page.

My rating for this is a B.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for an entertaining read will get just that with this romance that takes the Beauty and the Beast theme and turns it upside down.  Sparks soon fly from a combustible first meeting to the moment when a strong-willed woman’s life takes a devastating turn and she must rely on a sexy recluse to save her mother’s life.  Sexual tension soon takes over in a story that goes on a bit too long but that kept me fully invested in the outcome of their unexpected romance.  It was a romance that sometimes frustrated me but more often than not it put a smile on my face as I watched the two main characters dance around each other in a verbal tug of war.

Bianca Hardwick’s an immensely appealing heroine who’s strong-willed and quick to defend herself through colorful (and hilarious) comebacks.  She’s hard working and a supportive daughter who would sacrifice all for her mother.  Due to a cheating ex, who she also supported, she no longer believes in true love. She’s pragmatic and knows that happiness is something only she can control and sets out to do that with her agreement to marry a sexy recluse who needs her to claim his inheritance.  The more time they spend together the closer they grow to each other in a slow burning romance that frustrated me and charmed me all at once.

Jackson Boudreaux was born the only child to a family famed for their distillery. He’s always been surrounded by wealth and the finest things in life, believed he could get whatever he wanted.  Turns out he was wrong as he was betrayed by a woman who proclaimed to love him but cared more for his money.  Familial obligations, heartbreak, and disappointments all combined to have him running from his family and living a reclusive life far from his past.  Jackson’s very rough around the edges when readers first meet him, gruff and living up to his reputation of being a Beast.  It’s self-preservation at it’s most obvious and brings out Bianca’s feistiness in exchanges that were highly entertaining.  As he and Bianca spend more time together though heartfelt talks result and show him in a much kinder light.  Readers got a glimpse into a kind man who cares for a child with special needs and who would sacrifice much for the first REAL woman to make him feel alive.  Ultimately he’s a tarnished hero who doesn’t always do or say the right thing, but for those special few he wears his heart on his sleeve.

This was a story teeming with decadently delightful banter, a combustible couple, and a storyline that was at once familiar but still able to grab my attention and keep me fully invested in the outcome.  Jackson’s a man bruised by his past, a man with a fragile ego, who’s desperate to keep his heart hidden from the world.  His sexy looks and little boy lost psyche call to Bianca though and pull her wholeheartedly into his life where she finds unexpected love.  With the weight of their agreement weighing on them it’s a slow moving romance that had me desperate to see them finally give in completely and rooting for their HEA through it all.  Along with this likable main couple comes Ms. Geissinger’s vivid and loving homage to New Orleans.  The city takes on a vibrant life of its own and was a delightful backdrop to this combustible coupling.  A few secondary characters also caught my eye, among them were Jackson’s majordomo Rayford, who was wise beyond his years and didn’t hesitate to speak his mind as a pseudo-father.  Bianca’s friend Eeny was larger than life too with a love of magic and her boldness brought a smile to my face.  Bianca’s mother Davina was a huge influence on her and she was the driving force in all Bianca did.  Davina was full of wisdom and heartwarming words and she sometimes left me misty-eyed.  Overall this was an immensely entertaining read with appealing characters and a charming romance teeming with sexual tension.  While Ms. Geissinger’s previous romances were grittier and pulled at my heartstrings, this one is pure entertainment and I recommend it to all those looking for a fun and flirty romance!

My rating for this is a B+/A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The moment readers meet Lachlan Mount they’ll be left conflicted.  He’s an enigma who’s not easily seen as a hero as he cold, controlling, and a bit cruel. Despite that you can’t help being drawn to him and desperate to know more about his mysterious past.  He’s not at the forefront of this series starter, but his commanding reputation permeates the entire story and he’s never far from our thoughts.  He exudes power and eroticism and his sensual web captured me in a haze that had me frantically turning the pages.

Keira Kilgore, the feisty heroine who tells it like it is, is equally conflicted when it comes to the man who controls the future of her family’s distillery.  Discovering that her dead husband’s betrayals have left her in debt to a man feared throughout New Orleans changes her life irrevocably in a battle that has her discovering things about herself as she tries to save her family’s legacy.  Keira’s always been the good daughter, dedicated to her family’s distillery and focused on being a successful businesswoman.  She never did the unexpected, never gave into temptation.  She’s a tough woman, unafraid to stand up for herself, and doesn’t like relying on others.  The one time she threw caution to the wind she ended up married to a man whose life was a complete lie and who betrayed her in oh so many ways.  Being beholden to a man like Mount is frustrating on many levels and it makes for a combustible connection from the very start.  He pushes every one of her buttons, has her questioning everything about her sexuality, and leaves her hating him but wanting him too.  Through it all Keira’s a likable heroine with a strong backbone whose verbal sparring makes for an erotically-charged battle of the sexes.  It’s a war where winning isn’t easily defined but it’s entertaining watching each of them try to control the other.

Lachlan Mount’s a man of mystery who knows everyone’s secrets and is willing to use those secrets to get what he wants.  He easily manipulates through fear and by using your own desires against you.  He treats people as puppets in dramas he creates for shear entertainment.  It’s given him a much-deserved reputation of being a cold-hearted bastard whose guilty of every crime he’s accused of.  That reputation fuels the connection between him and Keira and makes for a verbal war of words that felt more like foreplay.  His demands are erotically-charged and led to scorching scenes that left Keira confused and readers blushing.  He’s not a romantic man, his words are sometimes crude and his actions cold, but he’s a man you won’t forget.  Those rare moments of care and concern he shows towards Keira intrigue me though and have me holding out hope that she’ll bring out a softer side to him.  As this series progresses I look forward to learning more about the man behind the mystique and to see who the victor will be as he and Keira continue to spar.

This is a gritty read with larger than life characters.  Keira’s a heroine you can’t help but root for as she gives as good as she gets.  In her battle with Mount it’s clear she’ll do what’s necessary to save her family’s legacy, but at the same time she’ll do what she must to save herself and not get lost in the sensual haze surrounding him.  Mount’s not an easy man to like but he’s a man who takes over every scene he’s in.  His moods are mercurial which kept me on edge trying to guess what he’d do or say next.  Together they make for an uncomparable couple whose scenes are crackling and whose banter was teeming with sexual tension.  Their sexy interludes weren’t exactly romantic but they definitely left me parched and rooting for Keira to finally take control. Along with this bold main couple there were a few secondary characters that stood out.  Keira’s friend Magnolia intrigued me greatly as she‘s a strong-willed woman, outspoken and a strong support for Keira.  She’s an escort/madam who knows plenty of secrets of her own and has always tried to push Keira to embrace the longings she’s long kept hidden.  Mount’s driver Scar also grabbed my attention for his quiet yet commanding presence.  He does Mount’s bidding but it’s clear he’s a man not to be messed with.  This first installment in the Mount Trilogy laid some compelling groundwork as a few secrets were revealed and moments of foreboding were unleashed.  Amidst all the sensual haze was a bit of suspense as it’s clear that Lachlan Mount’s not the only danger to Keira.  Readers who dislike cliffhangers will be frustrated by being left hanging but will forgive Ms. March as it’s one heckuva cliffhanger she crafted.  Though I saw it coming it still has me excited for the next installment and to see where the opening of this can of worms takes us!

My rating for this is an A.

Looks can be deceiving.
I knew that most people took one look at the ink and the impossibly big and strong body it covered and decided I was a brawler…a bruiser…a beast. However, I was hardwired to be a thinker, not a fighter.
I should have chosen to use my brain and talents to be one of the good guys, a hero, a man with dignity and worth.
I turned my back on dignity and sold my soul to the highest bidder, deciding to dance with the devil, instead.
I couldn’t figure out how to help myself, so there was zero chance I knew how to save someone else.
That someone else was Noe Lee. She was the unkempt, unruly thief who was just as smart as I was and twice as street savvy. She was annoyingly adorable beneath the dirt and grime, and she was in trouble. In way over her head, I told myself it wasn’t my job to keep her from drowning. In the Point, it was sink or swim, and I wasn’t the designated lifeguard on duty.
I shut the door in her face, but now she’s gone…vanished…disappeared without a trace. It took less than a second for me to realize that I wanted her back.
When a woman comes along that melts all the frozen, hard things you’re made of; you’ll do anything you have to, to bring her home.
What you see is not always what you get…and with a man like me, what you get is more than anyone ever bargained for.

EXCERPT:

Protective and possessive instincts coiled around my gut and rage felt like it was going to choke me. I was so used to being cold and numb, I didn’t know what to do with the fire that was licking at my insides.
“I saw him take her out of the trunk when they got to the docks. He moved like a cop. Not the kind who is there to actually protect and serve, but the kind who pulls you over for no reason and slaps cuffs on you to prove a point. I was locked up for a lot of years, boy genius. I know what a dirty cop looks like. He had a busted-up nose and stitches on the side of his face. Should be pretty easy for Titus to identify him.”
Titus King was Bax’s half-brother and the only law enforcement officer in the entire city any of us slightly trusted. He was one of the few men the Point hadn’t tainted. He was a good guy, trying to do right by the people in our city, and he wouldn’t hesitate to throw Goddard’s dirty cop under the bus. But I didn’t want anyone going after the Mayor. His sadistic ass was all mine.
“Do you think they made it out of the container after you hit it with the truck?” That had been my idea. Nassir was only sending in Booker and Benny to get Noe out, but I didn’t think it was enough fire power. Since he refused to let me go, even siccing Chuck on me as a babysitter until the job was done, I made Benny go over the plan with me no less than a hundred times until I came up with a better one. Knocking the container sideways with one of the big semi-trucks that littered the area would give Benny the time he needed to get Noe out and distract the outside security detail enough that Booker could do his thing. It was a risk because the people inside the container—including Noe and Benny—might have ended up injured when the thing flipped, but the odds of them making it out were much higher than if Benny tried to take on everyone on his own.
“If Benny made it out, we won’t hear from him again. That was the deal he made with Nassir. He would get your girl and then disappear, so he can go and live happily ever after with his. As for the rest of them,” he shrugged, “I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Your girl said someone had a gun, so if they were shooting at Benny, he would do whatever he could to make sure they stopped. He’s not about to catch a bullet for any of us. I know you want that asshole alive for your own reasons, but honestly, it’s better if Benny popped him.”
It was better, but it wasn’t what I wanted. A bullet between the eyes was way too easy for a guy like Goddard. People would bemoan how bad the Point had become, how Goddard had been a staunch supporter of crime prevention measures. He would die a martyr and a legend. I couldn’t stand the thought of that. I wanted who Goddard was, who he really was, out in the open. I wanted his mansion doors flung wide open and every skeleton inside the walls exposed and thrown out on the perfectly manicured lawn for the entire world to see. I hated people who hid behind the law. I hated when men in any position of power got off on using their elevated status to jerk the helpless and hopeless around. Death wasn’t the answer. Devastation was.
I closed my eyes and squeezed the cold, still hand that was clasped in mine. Failure weighed heavy on my shoulders and fury lit up my blood like popping and sizzling firecrackers.
“When do we ever end up with anything that’s better for us?” That wasn’t how the Point worked. That wasn’t how we worked.
Booker grunted and I felt him move behind me. “It happens. It doesn’t seem like better should be able to find a foothold in this place, but despite all odds, it does.”

THE PREVIOUS INSTALLMENT IN THE BREAKING POINT SERIES...

Don't be fooled.
Don't make excuses for me.
I am not a good man.
I've seen things no one should, done things no one should talk about. Honor and conscience have no place in my life. But I've fought and I've survived. I've had to.
The first time I saw her dancing on that seedy stage in that second rate club, I felt my heart pulse for the first time. Keelyn Foster was too young, too vibrant for this place, and I knew in an instant that I would make her mine. But first I had to climb my way to the top. I had to have something more to offer her.
I'm here now, money is no object and I have no equal. Except for her. She's disappeared. But don't worry, I will find her and claim her. She will be mine.
Like I said, don't be fooled. I am not the devil in disguise… I'm the one front and center.
